My neighbor has the Fouchard, my trees are about 20 years from needing one. But I have to admit that I hadn't really thought about the zombie angle.

I've been playing catch-up at work but all seems to be in order around town, lots of whining in the neighborhood. The power company has already asked PUCO to pass the cost of the repairs on to the customers, before they had the power back up, great PR move. The lawsuits will be filed on maintenance issues.

Ok, what went right and what went wrong:

wrong: I've become a charcoal snob. I don't like my steak cooked on gas so I didn't refill my tank. That cost me when all I wanted was a cup of coffee.
Didn't keep up with the batteries, at least the proper size.
Didn't buy the solar powered lights for the lawn that I wanted, they are a lot safer than candles around kids/dogs/cats-(burnt wisker)-and don't require batteries.

right: Kept a sense of frickin' humor!
This may be obvious to you guys: I've actually thought about what to do when we lose power.
Have an axe, a real one, that you can take a tree down with. Not an electric chain saw.
Didn't burn my gas up looking for GAS.
Learned: My wife gets these little candles that she uses so that the house smells a little less like me and the dogs. I think they are called "tea lights". Well, they last about 3-4 hours and cost about 10 cents per at Walmart or Target.

That the list so far and I'm sure I'll think of more.

Wind Storm in Ohio

September 18, 2008 by talltim

We got pounded by remnants of Ike, power lines down all over the place. For the wife and I it rated an "inconvenient" at worst but nothing like down south. I had to help a few of my neighbors with their trees and wait four days for power but thats it. I'll post an AAR when I catch up on business.

Obama Security Clearance

August 7, 2008 by talltim

A question that I heard the other day: If Obama was a normal military service member who was applying for a security clearance would he get it? Knowing what you do about his past associations with Rev. Wright, William Ayres and the rest, would he get a clearance? Just wondering.

You may want to x-post this to Politics.

Yep, having the wing tips touch will ruin your day. IIRC that was an A-model.

And I'll be in the theater with ya.

I saw this on Neil Boortz' site and asked a German co-worker the questions verbatim:

"Would you like the United States to be weaker or stronger."

"Weaker."

"Who do you support, then, for president?"

"Barack Obama"

He answered the same. Go figure.

Re: Boy Scout Manuals

I've found this link:http://www.thedump.scoutscan.com/s4b.htmlApparently the full text of Baden-Powell's Scouting for Boys in pdf format.

That looks great, with a nice up to date listing of 1954. Should be good reading. Thanks.

Boy Scout Manuals

July 20, 2008 by talltim

OK, I'll start off.

Does anyone know where I could get one of the old Scout manuals that are non-PC?

Thanks, Tim

btw-Just happen to be re-reading S.M. Stirling's "Dies the Fire" Coincindence?

Re: being prepared

This is always an interesting topic. With a mild climate here in southwest Ohio most people haven't a clue what its like to be out in weather. I.E.- dressing warm is enough till the car heats up. People still ask why I have a coat and a walk out bag in both vehicles.

Ok, it took a couple of days but I finally hunted down the A400M pictures. Your link didn't work, so I checked out the photos. It's brand new so I guess we'll have to see if its better than the J models that just came out. Nice looking bird though, I'd like to get up close and personal.

Hey Sorry I should have told you guys I'm a reservist out at Wright-Patt. I'm sure there's a few sitting around different bases, we heard that a lot of places wanted one for display purposes. IIRC even the Marines have one or two.

That said the 141's are no longer in the active inventory as of right now and are parked out at AMARC. We transitioned to C-5As a couple of years ago and now th AF will probably park those due to $$$.

The C-141 were retired about two years ago from Wright-Patt. The last to fly was tail 177 which is the "Hanoi Hilton" and is parked at the US Air Force Mueseum here at Wright-Patt.

BSG is really the only thing I make a point to watch. Razor is well worth it.
