I just have to say that three months ago, last time I was in theater, I saw lots of M-14's, not just old shoddy wooden ones, I'm talking up to date brand new. Knew lots of guys that wanted them. Then again, the Army does have many differences with the Marines. Also, didn't the M-4 come in last against the 416, scar, G-36, etc during that last little batch of testing? Heck, I've even seen articles in the propaganda machine "Stars and Stripes" criticizing the M-16. Either way I think this shows that agree or not, many people have valid complaints about the AR series.

Here's a trailer for Ergo Proxy. I've watched the first 2 episodes and I have to say its one of the best looking anime I've ever seen. It's a series but has the quality of anime movies. Very cyberpunk with a hot goth-anime babe. Can't complain there.

Okay, I want a Masada. Can use 7.62x39? Why don't we have this?

That just isn't how the Army is. Not at all. 300 meters max unless they send you to some special course or something, but that would be a one time thing anyway.

There's a lot to be said about wanting.

1. The Ring
2. The Shinning
3. Night of the living dead.
4. Dawn of the Dead. (original.)
5. Ju-On (Grudge.)
6. Exorcist
7. Audition (Rob Zombie even said this movie was &@#%ed up)
8. Event Horizon
9. Alien
10. Hellraiser l&ll
11. Nosferatu
12. The Eye (original)
12. Shutter (original)

This list is strangely close to my "favorite movie list" but I'd have to add a few like "Heat" and "Last of the Mohicans."

I always left the front lid on my Aimpoint and left both eyes open. the eliminated any double vision and made is so all I saw was a red dot in my normal vision (without obscuring my regular vision) and led to very quick target acquisition. I loved it but understand if people don't trust 'em. As for magnification and all that, the Army never...and I repeat never has taught us about shooting anything past 300 yards. Hell, the instructors often tell us not to shoot at the 300 and save your ammo in case you miss a closer one. Kinda of cancels out any arguments about long range weaponry when we're not trained to fight at long range.

I do have to say that this "Ergo Proxy" add here on the right looks pretty dang cool. I might have to see if I can find it somewhere.

How many people have the time to reload ammunition? Getting out to the range is hard enough.

Here's some pics from a Manga called Abarca. It's very strange to say the least but the art is unique (unusual for manga) and extremely well done.

I've recently put on a single point sling that attaches to the point at the base of the stock. It works well for me. I like it better than the 3-point sling I used on my M4

kit

I know different situations call for different set up of gear. What I mean is how one carries their stuff. I Iraq I used a Spec-Ops drop down holster for my M-9 on my right thigh and my ammo was on a left thigh rig. (though in training I usually had a dump pouch for my spent magazines.) I liked the Spec-ops holster because it kept it from flopping all over the place like a few other holsters I saw. My twin used an army issue holster but with an after market thumb break, on a thigh rig. I kept my body armor mostly clear of stuff, though I think I kept my spare M-9 mag on it. There are some people that like to carry everything in the catalog at once and it doubles their mass. I assume hunting requires a different layout. Tell us what you use and how you use it to carry yo' stuff.

No, but I do have fangs and I'll go crazy after a while and have to be put in a berserker squad.

I'm having a hard time coming up with a weapon I wouldn't rather see than an M4. Maybe this guy is the one gun I'd rather not have.

Re: Here's an Idea

October 3, 2008 by khorne

I look like a space marine with a pea-shooter. Look how freaking tiny that gun looks! I've also come to the conclusion that I don't like 3-point slings that much. Too bulky and always gets in the way. I prefer a one-point sling. I know this is a fantasy topic because the Army and the Government just aren't that cool anymore.

Re: Anime/Manga...

Akira is the original SHIT. I remember watching that on a bootleg when it was still brand freaking new in Japan. Something that isn't anime, but just as crazy is "Machine Girl."

Re: Here's an Idea

Oh, I'd love to have kept my saw, but I was thinking realistically. They'd never let us legally keep that. (and it'd be too expensive for me.) But hell yeah I'd love it.

Here's an Idea

October 2, 2008 by khorne

How about once a solider is done with a deployment or his time is up, he get the option of purchasing his service weapon. (providing its not a SAW or something) Now I think the M4 is a piece of shit, but I probably would have bought it from sentimental reasons.

Yes indeed! Crest of the Stars, Banner of the Stars 1&II, all awsome. Can't believe I forgot those. That's another one of those lesser known gems.

Re: Anime/Manga...

My top list. (and yes, I know far too much about this subject. Following are not in any particular order.)
"Planet ES"- brilliant writing and very good straight up Sci-Fi with no mecha, no aliens, no girls with guns.
"Voices From a Distant Star"- Poetic love story with aliens and girl in mecha.
"Samurai Champloo"- Tons of style, fighting, humor, and drama all in the right amount.
"Gundam 00"- Post 911 gundam story. Set in real world, fighting over resources. As good as hand drawn Mecha will get.
"Evangelion"- Straight up mind F#@%. I had to research Jewish Cabala in order to understand this joint. Revolutionary.
"Elfien Lied"- At times appears a cutsey anime, but that idea quickly gets torn away with dismemberment, incest, and extreme violence.
"Ghost in the Shell."- Cyberpunk with lots of philosophical questions. Hot girl with guns.
"Cowboy Beebop"- Blues, style, and bounty hunters.
"Haibane Reinme"- Not sure how to explain this one. Angels with no memory. About normal life.
OTHERS: Jin Roh, Macross Pluss, Big O, Gun Slinger Girls, Ganketsu, Akira, Battle Angel

My anti Zed kit is my AK, Native American gunstock club. It's from Cold Steel and can bash and the spike gives it skull punching power. I don't know why it's a Japanese chick holding an Indian weapon, but I aint complaining.

I want the weapon that's a pneumatic glove. You can punch someone's head off.

METT shows that you were in the military when it still had balls. Now it's METTC. The extra "C" stands for "Civilians." Oh brother.

Here's a link that add some more insights into this problem. It cuts it down to the basics. It is theft, plain and simple. there are no other issues or sides.

Good call, indeed they do, but don't those have problems with the mags? Anyone got any experience with them? I'd love a Sig .223, but I was thinking about guns I could afford. Same thing for an HK 416, love it, but could never get one. For some reason, .223 is the round of the AR and that would be the last weapon I'd choose for any end of the world scenario. Loose one little pin and you're screwed royally. One of these air guns would be pretty sweet though if you're just dealing with zeds.

Re: LOLWHAT

September 30, 2008 by khorne

What about the Zeds from "Monster Island?" If they kept feeding they'd get huge. Or the Zeds in riot gear? Don't forget the "LAMOES" (Last Man On Earth Syndrome) from WWZ. Just in case I'd pack something a little more substantial. 5.56 seems like a good round for the zombie apocalypse. (though I'd have a hard time finding a gun in 5.56 that I'd take during the zombie end of the world.)

Re: Tricked out weapon

September 29, 2008 by khorne

That's all I'm looking for really. Just the best/cheapest way to mount a red dot. That combo worked for me during my last deployment. The rest would be for comfort. (what? A returning soldier that didn't get an AR? We must silence this.) Now here's an idea for TAPCO, a synthetic grip like my wood one. Now THAT I'd buy.
