I've usually got a cheap clone of a Dalton Cupid clipped in my pocket, but my Gerber Suspension does regular duty too.

(providing its not a SAW or something)

Why not let them keep a SAW?

If it was my rifle, I'd get some plastic handguards or (just hack off the wood pistol grip and stain it green
), put a Red Star Arms trigger in it, and slap a Kobra on the rail.
I tend to prefer AKs that are more traditional than tactical. Too much crud hanging off seems contrary to their design philosophy.

These are a few of my favorites.
Great-granddad's Colt M1911 (circa 1918) & Grandads Luger P08 (circa 1917):

Ballester-Molina I've been working on for a couple years:

AK I built from a Romanian kit and Nodak Spud receiver:

Sporterized Swedish Mauser. Grandad started this one and died before he could finish it. He rebarreled it with a Douglas barrel (still chambered in 6.5x55 Swede), drilled and tapped it for scope mounts, and bent the bolt handle. I finished it with a cock on open conversion, Timney trigger, model-70-style safety, inletted the stock, and put some glass on it:

The Ruger Blackhawk in .41 Magnum I bought after consulting Ogre a year or so back:

Well, I didn't say good, I said decent. It obviously doesn't compare with a good single action trigger, but it's alright for a striker fired pistol. It definitely doesn't have the Sigma-like "break like a green twig".
When I got it, the first thing I did was pull out the magazine safety. After that I did some judicious 'boosting' by holding my thumb firmly over the rear of the striker while dry-firing. That did wonders for the gritiness and dropped the pull from 6.4 down to 5.5 lbs. It still had a fair bit of overtravel, but that's gone with the recall/retrofit.

My daily carry is a Ruger SR9. I lucked out and got one with a decent 5.5lb trigger, and despite Ruger's spotty rep on politics and general ethics cough*keltecripoff*cough, they're also a local industry (8.6 miles from my doorstep) I like to support.
