When I went to look them up on Mossbergs website... the pic that looked just like mine was titled 590 special purpose. The trigger guard and safety look more like durable plastic than aluminum. Maybe it is a 590.

Thank you. I feel much better about all of this. One thing though... Is there anything I can do about the recoil or am I just being a wussy? In the past Ive noticed differences in recoil between calibers but this made me want to spend the day shooting rimfire.

I am a total shotgun newbie. My experience with shotguns is limited to a handful of afternoons shooting trap and occaisionally shooting off the 00 buck loads I keep to protect my household.

About a year ago I was at the gun store with a couple of bucks in my pocket. I wanted a new pump for home protection and perhaps one day entering a few 3 gun competitions. A friend of mine suggested the 590a1, so thats what I asked for and what is written on the reciept. Unfortunately, a year later now that Ive spent some time with it I think its a 590 not the A1 variant. Im not bashing my gun store. The guys there have taken care of me time and time again and I am sure if I said something they would still make it right even a year later.

My questions are...

1. How can I tell? Mine only says 590 on the reciever. It does have ghost ring sights, an extended magazine, a bayonet lug, speed feed stock, if that helps to identify it.

2. Whats the difference? And does it matter?

3. Can anything be done to either tame the recoil with 00 buck or toughen up my shoulder? 7.62 x 54r doesnt bother me nearly as much as 00 buck seems too. Maybe its just me but my 870 doesnt seem to have the same recoil as this beast.

I have been doing a bit of research into the idea of creating biodiesel and I have a few questions.

1. Im fairly confident that I can get free or relatively free wvo. That said, approximately how much of an investment do I need to make to comfortably and confidently make biodiesel?

2. My family is using about 60 gallons of fuel a week. If we were running cheap biodiesel we would probably drive a bit more. So how long does it take to make 80 gallons or so of biodiesel? When you add the monetary cost and the cost in time is it still worth it?

3. What are you doing with your waste glycerine? My local waste water treatment plant wont take it, so besides making soap... what do I do with it? I have heard that depending on your recipe you can compost it... Is this safe?

Gun Locks... locked in the suitcase? WTF? If someone kicks in your hotel room door, you have about 2 seconds to respond. A locked gun is a friggen useless gun.

The man asked a question and I gave a half-assed wrong answer. I dont mind being wrong but it burns like hell to be wrong like that. Weird, Ive spent so much time fighting for gun rights and fighting against things like locks only to say something off the cuff and totally wrong. Gives one a new perspective.

What moron thought this might fly? I mean cmon... Top Gear is about the love of driving a car to its full potential. In order to even think about making a show like that happen you have to have a host thats passionate about his subject. Carrola doesnt strike me as passionate about anything.

Dont forget about your luggage and those little travel locks that are probably already on it. Why not just lock it in your suitcase?

I agree with Ogre. Our efforts need to be concentrated not on building a new party but in reestablishing the Republican Party as the party of conservative ideals. I also agree that conservatives need to spend more time playing chess, meaning learn to think 10, 20, 30, moves ahead. That said; let me ask the question in a different way.

Suppose John McCain picks an asshat as VP. (Lets say Bloomberg, but it could be a number of different ones). McCain is 71 years old and has already had one stroke. The odds are pretty good he won’t finish 8 years in the white house. Would we really be better off with McCain or would we be better off in 4 years after Obama has shown the country just how inept and silly it was electing him as president? Anyone remember what a total failure Jimmy Carter was as president. At the end of his term, the American people were so tired of his lack of leadership Reagan won in a landslide.

Ok I get the fact that any vote not for McCain is a vote for Obama. I also believe that Obama would be such a disaster that it would take generations of Americans to fix. What if McCain chooses a running mate that adds insult to injury... say Bloomberg? How would that disaster be better than Obama and letting the democrats take the rap?
