October 3, 2008 by b-hoff

Seanp, you hit it on the nose. No national identity and no will to sacrifice(US is going in the same direction). I even had a neighbor (who is a union employee) spewing the dems talking points and then proclaimed the the US is not a superpower anymore.......what?????

I remember when I was a kid reading about the Great World War. Canada was the first on this continent to act. They made concessions to no one. Americans who felt the US was slow to move went to Canada and joined the Canadian Forces. Since then I've had and still do have great respect for the Canadian people. I'm sad to see the Canadian Military dwindle down to nothing and make further cuts to their naval forces over a measly $51 million fuel bill.

I'm a Great Lakes guy and my idea of a vacation is driving from one side of the lake to another into Canada. Surf, hunt, fish, and catch a Leafs game....It doesn't get any better. I'm not bashing or neighbors to the north......just very concerned.

Why every nation should kiss our ass and thank God for America.

September 29, 2008 by b-hoff

I believe that America is the most powerful nation on earth because of our Navy. We patrol every corner of the planet protecting nations from invasion that cant or wont protect themselves. Our biggest ally and closest neighbor Canada who's government, media and half its population constantly attack our positions should be the most firmly attached to our ass.

Canada looks to cut their navy again to help curb fuel costs. Their current fuel budget is $51 million.......wheeeeew
http://www.upi.com/Top_News/2008/06/09/Fuel_prices_hobbling_Canadian_navy/UPI-14081213021786/

The current fuel bill for the US Navy is $3.8 billion dollars. The Navy is hoping to save $325 million this year with conservation efforts.........looking to save more than Canada spends for its own defense.

It's sickening to know that our Allies in WWII take America for granted. What must happen before this changes?.... Will it be too late?

Please write your representatives in the House and Senate and tell them vote no on the up and coming bill.

I don't care if you got a loan, gave a loan, or bought a loan you don't deserve any of my money. You can already see the impact on the value of our dollar just talking about this.

I saw some corn fields laid down flat. Luckily the damage stayed to the south of us.

We had some impressive straight winds across Ohio this summer.

With the thin margins in the market, one animal lost to a wolf is too many. The idiot who blogs on that site is one of those bear huggers that end up dead. Wild predators look real majestic while they are killing livestock and dragging off hippies.....lol

We have issues with cougars over here in the Great Lakes region. Whether they are being released or migrating they need to disappear. In Michigan its illegal to kill a cougar yet the state says they don't exist...... A ticket for killing a non-existent animal.....? Unless its a pet that escaped.....then its ok to kill it.....lol.

Anyways its fun to see these commies get worked up.

GTKTerm

August 30, 2008 by b-hoff

Running Linux but missing some of those Windows apps?

I started using GTKTerm in place of firing up Windows and Hyperterminal. I'm using it as a serial terminal into a RS/6000 that we just got Debian on.

I recommend you try it if your firing up windows just for hyperterminal......running out of reasons to have a windows box!.....lol

Mine was handed down for the 4th time to me and I will give it to my son when the time comes. I was 12 when I got my hands on her. Ever other shotgun feels foreign.

I actually need to get another.....for parts. My action is getting thin in a few spots.

Re: BIO-FUEL

Ericn

Start small..... I started using a blender and old pickle jars in my kitchen. You need to learn all the ins and outs before go big......there is nothing more disappointing than ending up with a 50 gallon barrel of soap. Find a cheap water heater to use for a reactor. Put a sump drain on all of your containers....you will thank me.

Re: BIO-FUEL

August 22, 2008 by b-hoff

Ethanol is not a losing proposition. You have to do it wisely. Plus we are looking at energy independence not financial gain. There are three permits....small producer, medium, and large. I have a small producers permit. Ive had it for three years and no problems. I have to send in a report to the B.A.T.F.E. every year.

In my opinion bio-diesel is easier to make...... just some very nasty chemicals and a very small margin of error. Ethanol is tricky.... Its got to be at least 160 proof to burn in an engine. The other 20% is water. You cant mix ethanol with gas unless all the water is removed(anhydrous ethanol). There is no still that will produce anhydrous....I'm glad to get 180-185 proof. The only way to remove the water is drying it with an isotope or by adding benzene....very nasty. You can run on straight ethanol but if you run low and add gas to it you will have big issues in your gas tank and fuel system. Thats why its best to have a still designed to make fuel. I have spent countless hours on this subject. You must be resourceful. If you are looking to make money....stop now! My whole motivation is to be dependent of no one.

I live in the corn belt and have an unlimited supply of wood. I build everything myself and only buy what I cant make or find in a scrap yard........ Its not for everyone.

Ericn

1. Cost of start up would depend on size and ability to fab it yourself.

2. Again size of reactor and amount of automation. Yes its worth it. If I get wvo free I spend $1 to make a gallon of diesel. I spend $1.50-1.75 to make a gallon of ethanol(depends on corn). I cut trees for a living so I have unlimited wood to burn at no cost.

3. The best way to use up glycerin is to spray a stone or dirt driveway to keep down dust. It can also make a good bonding agent for spraying anything. Just make sure the ph is level....lol

BIO-FUEL

August 21, 2008 by b-hoff

Ogre

You can get a permit to make ethanol....I have one. You have to file with your local B.A.T.F.E. If you need plans for a good fuel still I can get them to you. If you are interested in making bio-diesel I can help you there too.

Reasons ethanol isn't for everyone.

1. Source of corn...or what ever medium you use to make your mash. You need a lot!

2. Malt.... Its not cheap, neither are enzymes. You can malt your own barley!

3. Heat source for boiler... Coal Wood Propane..... It must be a constant heat.

4. A place to store raw products and byproducts along with fuel source.

5. A safe place to operate still and secure ethanol from kids or drunks...(fusil oils and methanol kill)

Feel free to inquire further.

Re: hunting boots

August 19, 2008 by b-hoff

These guys build good boots. hoffmanboots.com

They are made in Idaho and build a great pac boot. They also rebuild boots once you break down the shanks or wear off the sole.

I spend 8 hours a day with spurs attached to my boots. My pair of climbing boots are three years old...two years older than any other boot ever lasted for me. My pac boots still look like new. They are the warmest and most comfortable hunting boots I ever owned....Natural Rubber lower with a 14 inch leather upper.....hmmmm

Only downside is the price but well worth the money.

Re: evil socialists suck

Good Link

I would suggest that all read up on the Reign of Terror and the rise of Napoleon.

Maximilien Robespierre was lawyer and a leading leftie being admitted to the Public Safety Committee in revolutionary France. Max supposedly stood for the rights of the people but as we all know more heads were chopped off with out trial in his reign of terror than the monarchy in which he fought so hard to overthrow. Max quickly lost his head to the same committee that gave him power.

In every situation known to man, dictators always silence the voices that brought forth the change. Americans that that call themselves intellectuals pushing for this left wing agenda are anything but……their affliction can be easily cured by picking up any history book.

Man knows no new tricks!

Demilled AK Kits

July 11, 2008 by b-hoff

I am in the process of putting together a Romanian AKM. Its going well and seems to be an inexpensive way to get a custom AKM.

Does anyone have experience with these demilled kits? If so .... any pointers or suggestions on what kits are the best to work with?

I'm getting ready to spot the lower rails on ....lol

Thanks

Is U.S. ready to serve?

July 9, 2008 by b-hoff

I hate to think of Dr. Zhivago again but that statement from Senator Obama is bat $@&! crazy but true to his character. My Father and Grandfather always said "they" would start in the schools. Its straight from the book and part of his Liberation Theology.

The great part about this Nation is the United States are sovereign states and the federal government has no authority to form an army within their borders.

There is no way this will happen in my community......at least yet.....?

Re: Building a laptop

July 8, 2008 by b-hoff

Check out "nano itx" and "pico itx" formats. They are small with many options for power supply. You can keep a low profile by using 90* pci adapters. I run DSL (Damn Small Linux) and PUPPY Linux with embedded memory ide or usb.

For a monitor buy a $50-100 lcd. Tear it down and build a frame suitable to your needs. The hard part is finding or building a power supply and battery to fit your requirement.

Here is a cool project that uses "mini itx" format called the "AMMO BOX". There are many projects to gain knowledge from @ http://mini-itx.com
