Just wanted to know what kind of anime/manga you guys like, if any? I only like a few, but one of my favorites is the Dominion Tank Police (both old and new). It's intro is one of my favorites ever.

My top list. (and yes, I know far too much about this subject. Following are not in any particular order.)
"Planet ES"- brilliant writing and very good straight up Sci-Fi with no mecha, no aliens, no girls with guns.
"Voices From a Distant Star"- Poetic love story with aliens and girl in mecha.
"Samurai Champloo"- Tons of style, fighting, humor, and drama all in the right amount.
"Gundam 00"- Post 911 gundam story. Set in real world, fighting over resources. As good as hand drawn Mecha will get.
"Evangelion"- Straight up mind F#@%. I had to research Jewish Cabala in order to understand this joint. Revolutionary.
"Elfien Lied"- At times appears a cutsey anime, but that idea quickly gets torn away with dismemberment, incest, and extreme violence.
"Ghost in the Shell."- Cyberpunk with lots of philosophical questions. Hot girl with guns.
"Cowboy Beebop"- Blues, style, and bounty hunters.
"Haibane Reinme"- Not sure how to explain this one. Angels with no memory. About normal life.
OTHERS: Jin Roh, Macross Pluss, Big O, Gun Slinger Girls, Ganketsu, Akira, Battle Angel

Cowboy Bebop- what khorne said
Ghost in the Shell - what khorne said
Samurai Champloo - what khorne said
Outlaw Star- like a light-hearted Cowboy Bebop, with a more Star Trek/Firefly feel to it. I want a caster gun...
Banner of the Stars- epic space opera.
Berserk- the Conan of anime. Over the top bloody violence with a very good storyline and characterization.
Record of Lodoss War- the LOTR of anime
Drowtales - I'll throw this in, an online manga...most of y'all would think of something like Penny Arcade, but this is more like a fantasy novel series in comic book form. www.drowtales.com

Yes indeed! Crest of the Stars, Banner of the Stars 1&II, all awsome. Can't believe I forgot those. That's another one of those lesser known gems.

Love anime and Manga. I have some editions of the Cowboy BeBop manga, and love the show.

Another favorite is Bastard! But it works best subtitled with the original Japanese to hear all the American metal band names pop up in conversation.

I remember especially liking Fist of the North Star and Ninja Scrolls when I saw them in college. There was an old theater downtown that would play anime and/or cult classic shows at midnight...lots of fun to see those on the big screen.

Man, now I feel old, nobody mentioned Akira or Golgo 13. Ghost in the Shell and Cowboy Bebop are the shit though.Understand they're gonna do a live action Cowboy Bebop.
Guess I better head over to Netflix, thanks for the tips!
If you want to check out something that's not exactly anime, but is Japanese and disturbing, check out Tetsuo;the Iron Man.

Akira is the original SHIT. I remember watching that on a bootleg when it was still brand freaking new in Japan. Something that isn't anime, but just as crazy is "Machine Girl."

Khorne is The Horde's Official Authority on Anime/Manga/Japanese Culture and History. If I could make custom titles, his would be "Animaster". Just for fun.

Akira was the first anime movie I ever saw...and it was on that big screen I was talkin' about. Exploding heads from one wall to the other, it was actually a bit disturbing.

I enjoyed Vampire Hunter D, I just remembered. Wish I'd seen the follow-ups to the original as I heard they were maybe even better.

Trigun and Cowboy Beebop, that's about as far as it goes for me.

Ghost in the Shell, in all it's incarnations (bet you couldn't guess) for the layered and interlaced plot lines I haven't seen in almost ANY American sci fi. And OKay, the Major

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. Wierd and cute and funny sci fi/high school drama.

Battle Angel Alita.

I loved Dominion Tank police and almost forgot about it. Thanks!

Inuyasha, or for that matter anything by Rumiko Takahashi.

I own and love Machine Girl and if we're wandering into live action I own the complete six DVD collection of "Lone Wolf and Cub" Which was cut and re-edited as "Shogun Assasin"

I have to chime in here to second Evangelion. Which is still my favorite. Add to the list Hellsing (there are two versions, the original is better), Gantz and Berserk. Gantz is almost as screwed up as Evangelion, but without needing to become a theological scholar during the screening.

P.S. None of these are honestly child-friendly, but Gantz has a lot of really really un-child-friendly stuff in it. Just thought I would note that up front.

Big Trouble in Little China is one of my all time favorite movies.

"When some wild-eyed, eight-foot-tall maniac grabs your neck, taps the back of your favorite head up against the barroom wall, and he looks you crooked in the eye and he asks you if ya paid your dues, you just stare that big sucker right back in the eye, and you remember what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like that: "Have ya paid your dues, Jack?" "Yessir, the check is in the mail." "

That was one fun flick...

How could I have forgotten Gantz? Cryptic, hormonal and violent all at once!

Of course there are the guilty pleasures like "My my Mai!" and The "Tenchi Muyo!" series

and I nearly forgot the original "Vampire Princess Miyu" God I gotta get a replacement VLD player just to watch it now, along with "Bubblegum Crisis" and the 10 VLD set of "Urusei Yatsura" anyone got $500 to spare? Or wanna trade the DVDs for VLDs? (Har har, fat chance I know but as a bonus I might throw in Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers)

Here's some pics from a Manga called Abarca. It's very strange to say the least but the art is unique (unusual for manga) and extremely well done.

Here's a trailer for Ergo Proxy. I've watched the first 2 episodes and I have to say its one of the best looking anime I've ever seen. It's a series but has the quality of anime movies. Very cyberpunk with a hot goth-anime babe. Can't complain there.
