Canada looks to cut their navy again to help curb fuel costs. Their current fuel budget is $51 million.......wheeeeew

The current fuel bill for the US Navy is $3.8 billion dollars. The Navy is hoping to save $325 million this year with conservation efforts.........looking to save more than Canada spends for its own defense.

It's sickening to know that our Allies in WWII take America for granted. What must happen before this changes?.... Will it be too late?

The Canadians are more "ground force." Their precision marksmen have been capping Haj in Afghanistan with boring regularity and MacMillan .50's.
As for the Canadian Navy, Canada has solid pack ice on the north, Alaska on the west, and the inhospitable North Atlantic on their east. Calmer waters as covered by us.
...
wait, what was the question?

A large scale attack by the terrorists and nations that most of the EU insists don't deserve the way America stands up to them against a European target will change some minds. Not all, some hate freedom enough to turn a blind eye to any number of innocent civilian deaths. They will blame America, the UK and Israel regardless.
As to whether it is too late depends on whether the US maintains its military capability, or if some leftist politician decides to copy the UK and slash defence spending while threats increase.

Well, I don't know about kissing anyone's ass, but as a Canadian I am thankful for the US Navy.
I don't think that anyone could seriously argue that the world would not be a far different place - and not for the better - without the US Navy. And the armed forces of the United States in general.
Probably many people do take that for granted, or even object to it. But even for those that don't, there is a very real understanding that the simple fact is that the United States is probably the only country that is prosperous and technologically advanced enough to even field such a force.
At the end of WW2 Canada had the fourth largest armed forces in the world. But the cost to the nation was enormous. One in ten Canadians was under arms. That means the majority of adult males under sixty. It's not possible to sustain that kind of effort for any significant period of time. And, I would argue that it would not be possible for us to do again. In WW2, Canada had a unified, homogeneous national identity, something that we do not have today. Even the relatively small expenses that we do have for our military seem to need justification. Sadly, our fragmented national culture just will not make the sacrifices it once would.

Seanp, you hit it on the nose. No national identity and no will to sacrifice(US is going in the same direction). I even had a neighbor (who is a union employee) spewing the dems talking points and then proclaimed the the US is not a superpower anymore.......what?????
I remember when I was a kid reading about the Great World War. Canada was the first on this continent to act. They made concessions to no one. Americans who felt the US was slow to move went to Canada and joined the Canadian Forces. Since then I've had and still do have great respect for the Canadian people. I'm sad to see the Canadian Military dwindle down to nothing and make further cuts to their naval forces over a measly $51 million fuel bill.
I'm a Great Lakes guy and my idea of a vacation is driving from one side of the lake to another into Canada. Surf, hunt, fish, and catch a Leafs game....It doesn't get any better. I'm not bashing or neighbors to the north......just very concerned.
