I have an AK and have been told I should make a few modifications. Besides some kind of red dot sight and pistol grip, I don't know what else I'd do. Anyone have any sugestions? Traditional or tactical seems to be the big debate in the AK world. Also, if anyone has any sweet pics of your tricked out or modified weapons let's see 'em. Here's a pic of my baby.

If it was my rifle, I'd get some plastic handguards or (just hack off the wood pistol grip and stain it greenTongue out), put a Red Star Arms trigger in it, and slap a Kobra on the rail.

I tend to prefer AKs that are more traditional than tactical. Too much crud hanging off seems contrary to their design philosophy.

Why does everyone always hate on my wood for grip? I like it. It feels good, and works. My M4 had a for grip and I liked it. Is it because its wood?

LOL! Hey someone has to like those old Romy laminated wood foregrips so it might as well be you! Look, here's my deal with those sorts of things. My stuff works for me and clearly your stuff works for you. The only thing that really matters is that you decimate the target. (Well that and that you have enough US parts to ensure stupid 922r compliance.) So don't let them busting your chops get on your nerves.

You already have a side rail. All you need is a nice AK Weaver mount (something like this: http://www.copesdistributing.net/product_info.php?cPath=32_34&products_id=747) and you can start loading it up with accessories.

Fixed stock, Black Jack Buffer, SAW grip. If you like that wood grip, then good. I'd cut some rings in it and then re-varnish it, because that thing is too smooth.

Definitely a pistol new grip. Thinking maybe a new stock too. I'm not upset, just curious why. Is there a practical reason not to have it? Just cosmetic? Hmmm...some traction to the forgrip huh? !Interasante! Doesn't that add-on rail prevent use of the iron sights? Anybody have experience with those things?

I bought an ultimak for my romanian model AK and love it. With the Trijicon you can see the irons as well as the optic, the sights then appear to line up on the apex of the chevron. one shooter found this distracting.

I noticed the optic rail pointed to by g-man is a quick detach, so I wouldn't worry about seeing the irons as much as the loss of zero if I took the mount off.

Is this the Ultimak you are talking about? http://www.floridagunworks.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=AKA+AK+MOUNTS I saw a couple of good things on this website, but not sure about which ones. I like the top cover replacement ones but have heard bad things about some other versions. The quad rail forgrip replacement looks dang cool, but not cool enough to pay $100. I might go with the one G-man suggested. Good price.

Yep, that's the one, you can go to the website

http://www.ultimak.com/

There are several varieties due to the wide variations in AK designs, be sure to get the right one.

I'm not big on tricking out AKs, but that's me. The one mod I did with mine was the Krebs peep that replaces the buckhorn,

I love that wood foregrip. Don't ever change it! The rear grip needs to be changed, but the folder is beautiful. Leave it.

I've never been much for a tricked out AK.

A flat-top M-16 with a close range, low magnification sight and a foregrip is my idea of all the trick you need.

That's all I'm looking for really. Just the best/cheapest way to mount a red dot. That combo worked for me during my last deployment. The rest would be for comfort. (what? A returning soldier that didn't get an AR? We must silence this.) Now here's an idea for TAPCO, a synthetic grip like my wood one. Now THAT I'd buy.

Nope, you can look under the scope mount and still use the iron sights... It curls over the top cover but leaves enough of a gap to peek through.

I like the top cover replacement ones but have heard bad things about some other versions. The quad rail forgrip replacement looks dang cool, but not cool enough to pay $100.

Neither of those options will hold a zero. But of the two the top cover is the worst.

Here's a pic of my AK:

It's a demilled 1982 Romanian G model that I built myself. I want to change out that chunky Tapco foregrip that I have on it though and go with something a little more streamlined.

Damn Gman, you don't fuck around. Looking to give Krebs a run for his $? Well done.

I'm still gonna side with Skaramine and plug for keeping, I'd keep that badboy retro. Maybe even make it moreso, wood pistol grip and either an authentic folding stock or wood stock. When most of our captured weapons were mostly AKMs, not 47s, those funky foregrips were common.

Littlelebowski brought up some outfit that makes an unobtrusive CCO mount somewhere, either here or at LRI. You might check out the new Aimpoint Micro, that way your optic won't look like socks on a rooster.

Just my lame opinion though, I like my AKs with soul, but the uparmored ones definitely have their place.

A red dot sight is a good choice for an AK add-on if you don't like the sights.

I've recently put on a single point sling that attaches to the point at the base of the stock. It works well for me. I like it better than the 3-point sling I used on my M4
