I'm familiar with the RPK, and the AK-74... but an RPK-74, I'm not familiar with. But it doesn't sound like a bad idea. I am assuming you are meaning building an AK-74 based on an RPK reciever. I think if you are building any AK, this is the way to go.

No, this is similar to an RPK-47 except it uses the 5.45X39 cartridge. I was thinking it might be more interesting then a garden varity AK-74. Longer barrel, bipod, etc.

I don't think there's a wrong answer here. About a month ago I came VERY close to buying an RPK 47, but decided on the more practical AK 47. Still, it'll be unique and not something anyone on your block is likely to have.

That round is a smoker, but I'll pleed ignorance. Never heard of the platform. The Veprs do great with that receiver though.
