Old Engines vs Unleaded Fuel

Any advice on keeping a 1967 Dodge 383 running on unleaded without ruining the valves? Lead substitute is expensive. I can get new heads but would prefer not to spend the money. I've been told by a circle track driver to mix one quart of 30W non detergent oil per 20 gals of fuel. Anyone heard of this?

I had a friend who ran premix in his 4-stroke quad to quiet the valves, but I haven't heard anything like that with cars. Any luck with Google? He swore it made a difference in the amount of racket his top end made.

In his old Dodge it would just make more smoke.
This is a good question - I have no idea.
