McCain should pick Romney, but he wont because McCain is a douche and doesn't like Romney... who has the buisness sense we need, but who is also a douche. They would work together very well... but McCain wont let that happen. He was raised by a biggotted Anti-Mormon so in McCain's mind, Romney is out of the question.
Sarah Palin however has no downsides for McCain and a lot of upsides.
This wouldn't be a bad choice for us from our point of view. She's very Conservative on all counts. She's a hunter, NRA member - a real one. She's popular, meaning she'll be a shoe in for her own Presidential run in 2012. She's a Woman, which is also good for the party.
And she's a MILF... as they say... Quite attractive.
McCain picks Palin and Obama will have a hard time fighting that ticket. He'd have to pick Clinton just to counter that, and he doesn't want Clinton.

Plus, if Obama DOES pick Clinton, he essentially shoots himself in the gut. There's a reason why it was a three way battle for the nomination, and eventually became Hillary moving the goal posts at every opportunity.

Obama knows, if he picks Clinton he's dead.

Let's hope he picks Clinton then!

Bonus joy - if Obama DOESN'T pick Clinton, then Clinton's vitriolic mafia force will engage in a no-vote campaign, equally crippling the Obama campaign against McClown.

Barry's punked if he does... he's punked if he doesn't.

I love it when I'm right.

Everything I learn about Sarah, the more I like her. She's a brilliant choice and looking at it objectively, a better pick than Romney. McCain made the right call.

I was stunned. She's spent a lot of time telling Republicrat overlords that their corrupt pet projects are not OK. She's dissobediant.

As the SLC Tribune said, you're most often right.

I am amazed that McCain pick her but glad I have one person worth voting for.
By the way her husband is a working stiff union member.

Great call Orge - your even trumped Fox News.

My friends and I are hear watching Fox tonight and we are encouraged by what we are hearing about her. Dobson, Ingram, Kemp, Hannity are surprised but very positive. It sounds like McCain has picked a true conservative that will bring us back to Reagan era conservatism.

The Obama braintrust must be reaching for the aspirin bottle tonight:

1. She appeals to conservative right of the Republican Party - it might quiet questions on McCain's conservative stances and get conservative excited about the VP pick
2. She will play well to undecided women voters - Obama passing on Hillary might disinfranchise some women (some not a lot)
3. She is a maverick / Washington outsider - the choice of Biden is a long term insider; how does Obama continue to say he is a change agent?
4. In her executive positions, she has had to deal with corruption and run them out in AK - the Democratic ticket has been connected to corruption but not in the ways they would like to be.

This could have some interesting effects on the 2012 election too. If McCain decides not to run for a second term then Sarah Palin could go for the Republican nomination, and that would cause trouble for Hilary Clinton who may try again but won't be able to ask people to vote for her in the presidential election itself just because she's a woman. Sarah Palin could be America's Margaret Thatcher.

I really dig this pick. There's a lot that can be said for a gal whose favorite dish is moose stew! Here's my take on the whole matter: http://ggthoughts.blogspot.com/2008/08/sarah-palin.html

Moose stew? I've never had that.
Perhaps someone will can the stuff because of her.

I checked her out when you made your prediction, liked her and started talking about her at work. I currently hold the local title for "resident political genius who knows stuff we don't". Thanks.

She's a cool pic. The only downside I've heard Dems try to float was some dust up between her and an Alaskan state trooper her sister used to date...that and the inexperience angle they cringe to use... since she has more executive experience than their PRESIDENTIAL candidate. heh

She's held public office for 13 years. Most of that executive, instead of like Obama's commitee memberships.
It all comes down to this. She is a Leader. Capital L. Obama is a committee member who only votes on what other people have done. What leadership has he had? He's chaired a small Sub Commitee, sure. But he hasn't held one single meeting of that sub-commitee. Obama has done nothing while Palin has made some serious accomplishments.

Commanding Alaska's Guard w/ 24/7 missile defense
Posted By Uncle Jimbo

One area of Sarah Palin's background that may help her is Alaska's unique role in our national security and homeland defense. Several folks have have mentioned this but Tom W. was specific and his info jibes with the record.

Palinbunkerhill Alaska is the first line of defense in our missile interceptor defense system. The 49th Missile Defense Battalion of the Alaska National Guard is the unit that protects the entire nation from ballistic missile attacks. It’s on permanent active duty, unlike other Guard units.

As governor of Alaska, Palin is briefed on highly classified military issues, homeland security, and counterterrorism. Her exposure to classified material may rival even Biden's.

She's also the commander in chief of the Alaska State Defense Force (ASDF), a federally recognized militia incorporated into Homeland Security's counterterrorism plans.

Palin is privy to military and intelligence secrets that are vital to the entire country's defense. Given Alaska's proximity to Russia, she may have security clearances we don't even know about.

According to the Washington Post, she first met with McCain in February, but nobody ever found out. This is a woman used to keeping secrets.

She can be entrusted with our national security, because she already is.

I agree with that assessment except for the thought that her access to classified material may rival Biden's. Highly unlikely as Biden's seat on the Foreign Relations committee would expose him to information on a very wide array of topics. But her experience in keeping the homeland safe fits perfectly with her image as the competent American woman. It's not the same as having your finger on the button, but it a heckuva lot closer than Biden or Barry O has ever been.

It will be tremendous fun to watch a couple of complete political tools like the Hope&Change duo attempt to attack a record of substance not words, a record of action not bloviation, a record of kicking ass and taking names against what now.......?

U.S. Northern Command brought the 100th Missile
Defense Brigade (Ground-Based Midcourse Defense) to
operational level for the first time in response to the July
2006 North Korean missile crisis. Previously maintained
in test mode, the brigade, headquartered at Colorado
Springs, Colorado, and its 49th Missile Defense Battalion
(Ground-Based Missile Defense) at Fort Greely, Alaska,
remained at high alert status for the duration of the crisis.

I sole this from Blackfive.net, I couldn't figure out how to embed, sorry.

Whoever those two are, I hope they have at least 8 years of sketch work on SNL.
