My latest review was of an interesting handgun. One that I wanted to like... and I kind of do... but with some serious reservations.
On one hand, the Witness is a civilized daily carry type handgun normal guys like Insurance Adjusters might carry. On the other hand, it's the perfect sidearm for your local neighborhood axe murderer. This gun is insane - in a manner with massive self control.
Now, while I like it, I like it for all the potential it has, not for what it is. How can it be so brilliant, and so horrid at the same time?

I tend to thing the reason if because of the company putting it out... it puts more focus and attention to detail on their models cleavage than they do in the pistol.
What do you guys think?

The 10mm Witness is a gun that makes me smile from ear to ear.

While it could be the sidearm for your local neighborhood axe murderer, it's also the sidearm you'd reach for if you couldn't get a rifle or shotgun to deal with said axe murderer.

Yes, I know stopping power and one-shot stops are bad science, but all things being equal, I want a lot of 10mm on hand to put down a psychotic.

If it had a decocker, it would rule.

Plus, bonus points for us guys who were influenced by Sonny Crockett and the Bren Ten.

While I LOVE the idea of the 10mm round and the energy involved...... all my handloading experiences and misadventures have proven to me that TANSTAAFL. The extra energy comes at a cost- more recoil, shorter case life, battering of gun frame....... what will the 10mm do that the .45 ACP will not do in a pinch? And you'll never be using a pistol for serious work in any other siuation than "in a pinch": "If you knew you would be needing a gun, bring a rifle, and all your friends with rifles...."

The 10mm is an answer in search of a question, no?

The 10mm is an answer in search of a question, no?

That seems to be everyone's answer when they don't particularly like a round, I'm not saying your one of those guys mind you.

The question I suppose is that Jeff Cooper wanted to be carrying the most potent man stopping round possible, especially if he was to be in a situation when that's all he would be carrying.

The question is simple... Can we have more power? The 10mm says yes. Unfortunately too many people have heard only of the 10's downsides and never embraced the good sides.
Yes, it can batter frames... if they were shot from guns not properly set up.
The whole experience of the 10mm was nut-shelled by the Bren Ten and the Colt Delta Elite - both handguns that had serious flaws. So it got a bad wrap. Then the FBI adopted it and promptly abandoned it because it was "too much". The 10 got more of a bad rap because of that.
The new guns coming out... This witness, the Glock, Kimber had/has one, and Dan Wesson has a couple. They don't have the issues the plaqued the old guns. Because the makers know what 10 is and what 10 does.
And what 10 does, it does it very well.
Power, accuracy, and in a package that really doesn't kick that bad at all.
What does 10 do that .45 doesn't? How about cut clean holes in steel?

I had other photos... of sand stone hit with a .45 and again in a different spot with the .45. The 10 was hitting so hard it shattered part of the stone and destroyed the bullet completely like it was a prefragmented projectile. The .45 knocked the stone, but kept most intact. Deformed, but intact.

We also have to remember - this is a steel Witness. It eats a lot of ugly recoil.

I kinda want a witness match in 10mm, and another in 38 super (just so i can feed it 9x23). I have no real reason for getting either, but I desire.

actualy the witness hunter in 10mm would rock if the camo were given up for coyote brown.

Yes, yes it would. It's probably the best handgun EAA puts out.

No decocker on the Witness, and it can be carried locked and cocked.

Besides... nah, not gonna call people who can't handle the DA/SA change lazy and unwilling to work on real trigger manipulation.

NOT GONNA DO IT!

I'd love to handle a Witness in 10mm. I haven't seen one up here yet. If the price was right and there was someone who could buy one for me and ship it to an FFL willing to do the export paperwork...?

Ogre, I'm looking at you here :D

I'm not entirely joking, actually. I've got a buddy who is a 10mm aficionado. His shooting iron right now is a Glock. I'm sure that I could make him jealous with a steel framed piece. Or at least sell it to him if I don't like it

I have to wait before I could sell this one... I don't know how much EAA wants for it.
