I really don't know what the heck we should do about this Georgia thing. I spent a good many years standing on the other side of that thin line from the damned Ruskies and I just never bought into the whole Russia is now our bestest buddies spiel that people were trying to peddle. I never have trusted or liked those bastards and probably never will. The way they've been positioning themselves on the opposite side of the Iran issue, opposing the defensive missile shield efforts in the Baltics and the wholes resumption of the Bear flights and all tells me that they are still duplicitous bastards and in all likelihood always will be.

I think they were alright before the Commy Revolution... but since then... the Russian Government has been less than trustworthy. I know a lot of good Russian people who have come here. No issues with them.
But I have a lot of issues with the government.
Russians, North Koreans, Saudis, China.

My best friend who was a Russian studies major in college says Putin is out to reunite the Greater USSR. The goal is to seize Georgia completely.
As for trusting Russians. My grandmother turned to her mother, my Finnish great-grandmother , at the end of WW2 and said, "isn't wonderful mom the war is over and nations with the UN can be friends again,' to which my Great-grandmother said, "Ya, but a Rooskie is still a Rooskie".
Believe me the Finns calling a Russian a Rooskie is very derogatory.
My best friend was in Finland in the late 1970,s on a LDS mission, when the Russians massed 20 heavy divisions on the border of Finland threatening invasion. The Finns promised that they would not let their battalions go unbloodied. Russia eventually backs down.

The Finns are not to be messed with. Their military prowess is extremely high when they are on their own turf. The Rooskies made a wise choice.

Yeah the Russo-Finn Winter War is one of the most overlooked conflicts in history. The Finns ended up losing the Karelian region but basically cut communist Russia's balls off. Finn Simo Haya was THE sniper in that war. He had 400+ kills and most with iron sights. Look into it. The Winter War is one of the most fascinating you will ever read about. Tiny Finland proved to be a cornered wolverine and tore the Russian bear a new one. I had hoped Georgia would prove the same way but alas there's only one Finland. The Finns truly are a breed apart.

Well thank you.
Speaking of Russia-Georgia, here are my thoughts:
Russians never, EVER take action without having both short term and long term objective. Thay are a nation of chess players who have truly read their Macchiavelli. They have been wrestling with Georgia for the control of Black Sea ports since the break up of the Soviet Union. Since I'm not a psychic I'm not able to read the mind on Putin, but Russias short term objectives seems to be to force De-facto independence of South ossetia and Abhasia, their long term objective is to control Black sea ports and, Georgia from joining NATO and bring the oil pipelines running through Georgia under threat of "terrorist action"
This would effectively put Russians in firm grip of EU's cojones as most of Natural Gas and much of the oil used in Europe comes either from Russia. or through the turkish ports.

Yeah. I think Musarif and his administration hated her because she kept exposing the deep butt love shared between Musarif and the Taleban.I just love the two-faced double-standard of the Islamists. It's perfectly fine to make a Cleaveland Steamer with your buddy's nephew, but if two consenting adults get into it, they gotta be beheaded.
From what I can tell, the worst crime to a muslim is for a non-muslim to fight back.
I recently saw a stall handing out free leaflets and DVDs explaining Islam. I have a friend at work who has been studying all manner of religions (I'd never heard of Hawaiian Huna (not sure of spelling) until he told me it existed) so I took some for him. He said the speakers left him thinking this:

Not to agree with the passive agressive guest flamer, but I personally think Osama Bin Laden is dead. He's 6'2" and on kidney dialysis from what I hear. I reckon that he might be easy to find considering he has/had to flush the ole kidneys once every couple of weeks. That shit isn't small. I think he got smoked early on. Remember how much the Husein look-a-like looked-a-like Sadam? Bin Laden = filthy stinkin' rich and surely could afford a dopple ganger or two. So IMHO he god vented out a cave hole. Not just for that stuff but because we can read your mail from outerspace and send fast moving things that go boom through thick rock like substances. Oh yeah and we found Sadam painted in his own feces in a hole. But that's my own personal conspiracy theory. I like it and will keep it until Bin Laden actually does get wacked or an anthropologist finds him accidently while searching for the Ark...or something. In which case I will know I was right lol.

The parallels between Iraq and Kuwait and Georgia and South Ossetia are obvious. The Russians just moved faster and better than the "Coallition Forces and didn't have to stop for UN approval (after bribe collection.)
From the above:
"On the night of Thursday, Aug. 7, forces of the Republic of Georgia drove across the border of South Ossetia, a secessionist region of Georgia that has functioned as an independent entity since the fall of the Soviet Union. The forces drove on to the capital, Tskhinvali, which is close to the border. Georgian forces got bogged down while trying to take the city. In spite of heavy fighting, they never fully secured the city, nor the rest of South Ossetia.
On the morning of Aug. 8, Russian forces entered South Ossetia, using armored and motorized infantry forces along with air power. South Ossetia was informally aligned with Russia, and Russia acted to prevent the region’s absorption by Georgia. Given the speed with which the Russians responded — within hours of the Georgian attack — the Russians were expecting the Georgian attack and were themselves at their jumping-off points. The counterattack was carefully planned and competently executed, and over the next 48 hours, the Russians succeeded in defeating the main Georgian force and forcing a retreat. By Sunday, Aug. 10, the Russians had consolidated their position in South Ossetia."
Now my question, did our wonderous Department of State give the Georgians the same lever of approval for their invasion of SO, that the DoS give Saddam's invasion of Kuwait?
