Since we werre talking about the Blizzard games that we all played for so long, Does anyone still play any old games? I have found myself playing (in the last year) Mechwarrior 3, quake3, mech commander 2 (in Russian), AVP2, Starcraft (a lot), black and white 2, Dungeon keeper 2... the list goes on and on. What about everybody else?

Operation FlashPoint is still the best war simulator out there (there is also an updated version called Armed Assault)

I have all of my old games, but compatability problems cause me not to be able to play them...even though XP has the compatability program, it doesn't work in many cases...MechWarrior 3 crashes all the time for me...

I also would like to play StarLancer, but again, compatability issues, it crashes...

There are lots of others, but like I said, many of them have compatability issues...

I've been playing a lot of Fallout 2, that along with the original Diablo is all I've got on my laptop at the moment.
Starcraft is definitely getting installed whenever i find some time and I've been thinking about getting that Command & Conquer battle chest with all the old games.

speaking of the classics i just discovered last night that there is a port of the original Doom for the Xbox 360, with deathmatch and Coop, its a pretty sweet deal for the equivalent of five, six, dollars in Microsoft funny money
either they changed some things or i forgot one of the steps, cause i could not get the chainsaw on level 2...

for the truly old school: projector, laptop, ps2 controller adapter, NeoGeo emulator, Metal slug 2,4,5,X, puzzle bobble, weird Japanese game with flying robotic cat with fists of fury

arcade classics 'til 3 in the morning, thats how i spent my forth

I've been playing Duke Nukem 3D lately and I still have a lot of the Police Quest series games.

Also, flashpoint rules! :) Armed Assault doesn't run too well on my computer, though.

Master of Orion 2: Battle at Antares.
I first ran it under Windows 95, and am still running it without any patches on my XP machine.

But do not get Master of Orion 3.

Command and Conquer Gold and Command and Conquer: Red Alert, easily the best real time strategy games I have ever played. Shame they don't run on XP without some major tweaking.

Also found myself playing some AvP 2 a few weeks ago, running around with the Smart Gun cutting aliens in half is always fun :P

At a LAN party AvP 2 is one of our favorites, nothing like sitting around a long table, and then watching somebody jumo as they get torn into by a bug. In the dark with headphones on, I love how intense that gets.

Just FYI folks you CAN make XP pretend to play nice with old DOS games and things meant to run on 95-98, by adding the line:

mem=ram

To your config file. This causes XP to allocate some of the gobs of RAM most modern computers have to 'virtual memory' and generally keeps older games (especially those running in a DOS window) running halfway decently. Alternatively you could put a limiter on your CPU to make it run slower while running older games, while doing essentially nothing (except being yet another entry into the already bloated registry).

Also check for patches, I know Half-Life came out with some ungodly large (80+ megs) patch to make running in XP easier before putting out compilations, and I am sure they can not be the only ones.

I have been playing Betrayal at Krondor for years this way :-) And I will never give up Krondor!

I love that game. Favorite cut scene - when the Chinese hooker kisses 47, and he has this shudder of revulsion that he holds until after she escapes.
