I bought the marvel 22 conversion for my 1911's and have had 0 problems with it. the first day I fired 800 rnds from it which would have paid for the kit 2x over if they had been 45 acp. Fire 45's after training for accuracy with 22's. the 45 kicks and the 22 doesnt.

BTW a "duty trigger" in a glock is often +/- 7lbs, factory is around 6 lbs or so. My SW1911 is set at 5lbs. If I dont pull the trigger it wont go bang. ND's happen when either equipment or people or both break. My 1911 safety off is merely a hammered glock. I still have a drop safety and a grip safety preventing an ND. That is actually more than a Glock has. If both those safeties break, I still have to pull the trigger to go BOOM. Merely a matter of perceptions of safety or lack thereof.

The .22 conversion kit will not teach recoil mangement. It would be fine for aquiring sight picture, etc, but you can do that dry firing..... which you should do DAILY (cause it's FREE!).

the .22 conversion is a good idea, but more as something down the road, after a good holster or two, a few boxes of the various premium ammo to find what works for you and you're gun, magazines etc. Also the 1911 has the best and most plentiful .22 conversions, but if you look around a bit you can find 'em for a lot of the popular automatics.

regular dry fire training is also good if its structured and kept clearly separate from carry and any other times when the gun might be loaded.

Layneman, I also live in Memphis. Are you going to RangeUSA? That is the place to go for purchase. Those guys are great and know their stuff.

I have a Springfield XDm for carry and love it. It's a .40 and is extremely accurate. They are beginning to offer holsters for it and you can purchase IWB holsters for the XD Tactical and it will fit perfectly.

Also you can take the class and get fingerprinted at RangeUSA. Ck out rangeusa.com

They will work pretty well until they break. I've seen more than one fall apart on the range, broken slide from that cast pot metal they use.

Sorry to bring up something old, but I have to say something. I love Hipoints for plinking. I just have to say that they have the best warranty in the industry. If anything happens to it (even if it's your fault), hipoint will fix it free of charge with no questions asked...no matter if you're the first or fifth owner. Also, nothing voids the warranty. Nothing. If it's unfixable, they just send you a brand new gun. They usually include a free magazine when they ship it back to you, too. Oh, and the warranty isn't limited.

Just had to say that. I love my Hipoints for plinking and target practice... but they are still fugly.
